| electronic data interchange
Electronic data interchange (EDI) is the direct, application-to-application transmission of business documents such as purchase orders, invoices, and remittance advice. EDI makes it possible to exchange data without ever rekeying the original transaction information stored in your computer files. By using EDI, your company can send business documents directly from your internal computer applications to your distributors, retailers, suppliers and other branch office computer system.
Historically, EDI uses different standards (ANSI X12, EDIFACT) and requires complex programming, point-to-point integration, dedicated EDI servers, VANs (Value Added Networks) and it has a high transactional cost.
Since 1996, XML (Extensible Markup Language) appears like an alternative for the electronic interchange of data and information. Without a strong standardization such as the EDI, XML is easy for programming, accepts many-to-many integration, includes small/midsize-trading partners, requires common web servers and transacts over existing internet.
Including the capability of mapping from EDI to XML and from XML to EDI, many people are looking XML as the future of EDI. They say that XML will be the best option for data exchange.
Our team of developers has a strong experience in both, EDI and XML. We developed applications and “electronic channels” using the top of the art technology available in the market.
